In 2019, the UAE Government introduced the Golden Visa, a new system for long-term residence that enables foreigners to work, live, and study for a period of 5 or 10 years.

The UAE government implemented Golden Visa to honor and recognize its residents who have been here for the long term and contributed to the country’s achievements and development, to attract more business investment and development in the region. Initially, Golden Visa was offered to people belonging to specific groups: investors, individuals with extraordinary talents, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and outstanding students.

After that, in an update to the 2019 long-term residence program, in 2021 the UAE Government added categories, which included Ph.D. holders, top graduates from UAE accredited universities, UAE-based physicians and engineers.
